“Amor” is Spanish for “Love.”
“Y” is Spanish for the conjuction “And.”
“Lucha” is Spanish “Struggle.”
Put it all together and you get “Love and Struggle.”
Amor y Lucha Records is a d.i.y. label run out of Washington, DC. Amor y Lucha started becoming a reality in the first days of 2001 and grew out of a love for the music and people in international diy punk community . The idea of thinking globally and acting locally was and is at the epicenter of Amor y Lucha. In our modern times real life communities are rare and subversive. People are so caught up in their lives, that they rarely know the people living next to them, yet people seek to be connected to something (which can be seen more and more with the success of online communities.)
I’m a firm believer that communities should exist in real life, not just on-line. Most of us interact with the people we care about via some form of technology more often than we find ourselves in the presence of those people. There is more and more technology to keep us connected with each other. The unfortunate effect of this is our attention spans fade, and we no longer make as much effort to actually spend time in each others presence. It seems we stay in touch for the sake of staying in touch.
Amor y Lucha started in order to bring like minded people from various parts of the globe together with music and ideas, to learn from each other, enjoy each others creative tendencies, and to inspire each other to get involved in the world around them. Getting involved in the community you live in is one of the most important things a person can do. As much as we love to see people getting politically active, we hate to see them overlook the little things that could be done in their own communities.

AYL is an independent record label and distro based in Washington, DC.
Will you release my band’s record?
Probably not, unless we know you or someone in your band, or your band is really really awesome (like the next Man is the (Fucking) Bastard kind of awesome). We’re a very small and low- budget operation. Feel free to send us demos/music (sorry, we don’t have time to check your myspace page) in cassette, cd, cd-r, and/or vinyl formats. Keep in mind that we are not actively seeking new bands to release at this time.
Can you help distribute my record(s)?
Our distribution catalog is mostly the result of trades with other labels. On occasions we will buy records for our distro at wholesale prices from other labels/distros. Please send a sample of your release(s) if you think we might want to purchase wholesale copies (once again, no we will not check out your myspace page).
